Reasons for refusing a Schengen visa

If you have completed the documents in accordance with all the rules and requirements, you will have no problems with opening a Schengen visa. Do not worry about minor mistakes made when filling out the documents - this will not be a reason for refusal. But if you have given knowingly false information, or if you have provided fake documents, you will influence the decision-making against you.

The visa refusal stamp is characterized by two marks - letters (A, B, C, D - visa type) and numbers - reasons for refusal.

1 is a refusal

2 is an invitation to an interview

3 is a request to provide missing documents

4 – permanent cancellation.

To avoid such marks in your passport, carefully familiarize yourself with the reasons for refusal of visas to Schengen countries and try to prevent them.

  1. Providing false or forged documents.
  2. The purpose of your trip to the Schengen Agreement is unreasonable.
  3. Insufficient proof of your solvency to cover the costs of accommodation, moving, etc.
  4. The threat of your entry into the country. If you are suspected of intending to violate the internal security of citizens, public order, health, as well as international relations between the countries participating in the Schengen Agreement, you may be refused a visa.
  5. Insufficient evidence of proper medical insurance.
  6. The information about your stay in the country is insufficiently substantiated, and your travel documents raise doubts.
  7. The presence of offenders in previous trips abroad. Even parking fines can affect the decision.
  8. Stay under investigation of the visa applicant.
  9. New passport. If your previous passport has expired, provide it too when submitting documents.

If the consul decides to deny you a visa, you have the right to apply for a review. You can do this within 7 days after the refusal.

If you have received a refusal directly at the border, you can appeal the commandant's decision to the chief guard commander within 14 days.
