What if you lost your passport on vacation?

Option 1. Immediately go to the police station and write a statement about the theft or loss of documents, in case of loss of valuable things, make a list of them. All documents must be certified and copies made - you will need them later

Important!!! If in your case the theft occurred in the territory of one country, and you are returning home from another country, then you go to the police at the place of the theft and contact the embassy in the country from which you are returning home.

Option 2. Contact the consulate. Be careful, check the schedule of this service before your visit. As a rule, all embassies are open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and on certain days. You can use the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your country, there is all the information.

Important!!! If the embassy you need is not on the territory of this country, find the nearest diplomatic representative in the neighboring state.

List of documents for a visit to the embassy:

  • Copies of certified documents from the police (about loss or theft);
  • Photo 3*4 (2 pcs);
  • A document confirming your identity (if not, then a copy);
  • Application for the consulate;
  • Paid consular fee.

If there are no identity documents?

You can ask your relatives to send a copy of your passport or another document. You can also contact the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the place of your permanent registration for personal identification. The easiest way is to take two friends with you to the embassy, with foreign passports, to confirm your identity and citizenship. Immediately after the embassy receives a response from home, you will be issued with a certificate of return to your homeland or a new passport.

The certificate of the right to return to the family prohibits visiting other countries, is valid for thirty days, and is issued at the consulate. It is presented instead of a lost foreign passport. The term of its action can be extended, but only if there is a valid reason.

When is a new passport issued in a foreign country?

You can issue a new document if you are staying in a foreign country for a long time due to treatment, work, study, business trip or internship. In this case, you will need to collect all the documents from the above list and add to it a birth certificate and a document confirming the reason for your long-term stay.

Important!!! You will be asked many questions on the way home, when crossing the border at passport control. Try to remain calm, answer clearly and restrained.

Option 3. Passport desk. As soon as you have returned home, apply to the passport office at the place of residence within two days.

Useful tips:

  • Specify the address and details of the embassy;
  • Determine the amount "just in case";
  • Make copies of passports;
  • Make scans of all documents, save them to your email;
  • Do not take the originals of documents for walks, go with a copy;
  • Take a 3*4 photo just in case.
